LONDON ONTARIO!!! WE'RE KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR!!

                      Picture
With the excitement of the last Tour date being held in London, our Toronto team is amping up to put on the pre-show party of the year!  MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!! (see the London Pub Charity Event Tab for more info).

But did you know?  We have 9 girls registered for the walk from London directly!!  This means that if we have ONE more register we can register a LONDON TEAM as part of our national Team that consists of Edmonton & Toronto.

So are you in London? Are you registered for the walk and know you can walk in London?  Message either Adina Ingram (@AinToronto), Melissa Gushnowski (@etownmelly), Michelle Wispinski (@infinitewicked) or Jen Beamish (@JenOntheBlock_7) to join the LONDON TEAM Today!!!

It takes 10 registered Walkers / Runners to be considered an "Official Team".  You can walk in any location but without 10 registered participants the "Team Status" isn't recognized.

Danny Wood of NKOTB recognizes ETOWN GIRLS.....

                      Picture
The Day our Journal Article came out - we sent a Tweet to Danny Wood of NKOTB.  To our incredible delight and joy, this is what Danny posted back to us (see pic to the left).

Danny doesn't often tweet Fans directly, so this was an incredible joy for all of us.  That night at the Edmonton Concert, Danny was hand delivered his very own copy of the printed article.  When Jordan Knight saw him get it, he commented he also wanted a copy but we didn't have enough.  Oops!

What a great day this was for all the Etown Gals!

                      E-TOWN Girls Makes a SPLASH!!

On Tuesday July 12th, the day that NKOTBSB came to Edmonton, our very own E-Town Ladies were featured in the Edmonton Journal!!

Team Captain, Melissa Gushnowski entered a contest, submitting a story about what the NK reunion has meant to her.  She ended up winning this contest and to our luck and suprise a reporter from the Journal wanted an interview with as many of us as we could gather.

It was a small group that was able to get together on such short notice but the story told brought tears to most of our eyes, it's been an incredible journey with an incredible group of ladies....and the fun is just getting started!!

EXCITING TIMES for Team Betty Canada!!!

                      Picture
Who knew when this journey started now 3 years ago, I would be sitting here on a rainy Sunday morning updating a TEAM WEBSITE with so much information it could keep me busy nearly full time.  Who knew that my fellow Etown Girls would be getting up this morning and recovering and travelling back from the Vancouver Show or preparing to be interviewed by The Edmonton Journal about our story.

Who knew that in 2 days, many of the Etown Girls will be seeing NKOTB for the first time since the Reunion, while others would be meeting them for the first or 20th time.  Who knew we would be planning 4 days of get togethers than include Dinners, Concerts, Road Trips and flat out Silliness!

Who knew that Melissa and I would push to meet people from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Edmonton Office and meet a fellow Blockhead Susan Olson, the Run Organizer for the CIBC Run for the Cure and instantly an immediate friend, ally and supporter.

Who knew that we would be embarking on our biggest Fundraiser EVER, a Pub Night with Silent Auction, Dancing, 50/50 Draws and an estimated 300 people in attendance with the goal of raising between $10 - $15,000!!.

Who knew that our Toronto Partners would be RUNNING with their fundraising.  Two Charity Events planned already, Guest appearance at one of those events by the Funky Bunch (formerly of "Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch").  They now have two Yard Sales under their belt, nearly $1000 raised combined at the two.  We have a Cupcake Baking Queen selling Dozens of Cupcakes, so many I'm not sure how she's keeping up.

Who knew that we would find girls in Montreal and Quebec City that we hope to make part of our National Team (rules state we need 10 people in each city to be part of a National Team - we're hoping to break that rule).

As Toronto prepares for the "Guys" return, Edmonton is just WINDING up for a Whirlwind Week of Dreams Coming True and Excitement.

Stay tuned to this website always....Things will be and are already changing daily.

                      THIS JUST IN!!!!

                      Picture
WE NOW HAVE A FORUM!!!  Facebook changed some settings and has made communication with all of us very difficult.  Not to mention there are those not on Facebook often, or on Twitter at all and unfortunately they are missing out on a lot.  This website is a little easier to check in and requires no "SIGN UP".

It was suggested that we look at incorporating a FORUM as part of our website.  The GOOD NEWS is that we NOW have a FORUM.

The bad news if you want to call it that is that it's a public forum.  You can log in any way you wish (there are several options) and under the settings tab you can change your display name, picture and even create a signature BUT it's PUBLIC.

It will be a great place to chatter though, share ideas and share information.  IT WILL BE WHERE I now put all my news when it comes to E-Town and our Fundraising Events, I assume as Adina and the T-Dot gang continue to do their events, they too will post there as well.

So please check the FORUM Tab of this website and dive right in.  It's MUCH friendlier than Facebook is and for those not on Facebook OR Twitter (YES there are those people haha) this will also be a better place to communicate with EVERYONE on our TEAMS!

                      ~M~

                      AND THE WINNING DESIGN IS.......PINK!!!!

                      Picture
The design going on our pants this year is TEAM BETTY in PINK!  Thank you to everyone who voted!  AND a BIG thanks for Krista for not only desining this logo but also printing them and making us all look amazing in our TEAM YOGA pants.

There has been some communication on the Facebook group site about the style of pants and pricing.  Make sure you check in there for more info.

TEAM HOODIES - 5 Brothers and a Million Sisters

                      Picture
Krista, our Angel and Breast Cancer Survivor is the GENIUS behind our AMAZING looking Team Hoodies.  She will also be doing our pants this year (see below and VOTE for your fav design).

The Hoodies design was created in LARGE part thanks to NKOTB.  During the 2008 / 2009 Tour, the phrase 5 Brothers and a Million Sisters was coined to explain the phenomenon that was NKOTB and their fans.  Everyone meeting (most and many for the first time) as Fans....Those Fans grew into FRIENDS....and now those Friends are SISTERS...

Joe McIntyre did a song and he called it "5 Brothers and a Million Sisters" and while there isn't a million NKOTB fans, there are a lot of us and it made perfect sense.

Krista contacted Komen and they contacted Danny and we were given EXPRESS PERMISSION to use the New Kids on the Block Logo from Danny himself.  You can't not IMAGINE our excitement.

On the sleeves of these hoodies you will find the team names:  ETOWN GIRLS or TDOT GIRLS.

LET'S CURE THIS was started by many of us because of a phrase that Joe also coined "Let's Get This" and it seemed to make sense when we were fighting Breast Cancer that "Let's Get This" should without a doubt be changed to "LET'S CURE THIS" and so it was.

On each of the hoods of these amazing hoodies each walker has the option of listing as many as they want - the people they are walking for.  My hoodie for example reads that I'm walking for "Betty Wood, Krista Thompson & Boobies"  Everyone's is special and specific to their reasons for walking.

In May 2011, Krista was on the SS NKOTB with several of us and she was able to get to Danny personally his very own ETOWN BOY hoodie.  Stay tuned for pics of Krista's meeting with Danny - it was amazing!

These hoodies are worn with incredible pride and they are made with impecable workmanship.

THANK YOU KRISTA for making such incredible "Team Uniforms" that I know we are all incredibly proud to wear.

Looks like the PINK CANADA design is going to win for the Yoga Pants this year...If you haven't VOTED....WHATCHA WAITIN FOR??

TEAM BETTY CANADA - Our Team Logo!

Hi Everyone!  Krista did it again!  She made us an incredible logo we can all be proud of.  Below you will see 2 pictures.  Identical in design but the colors obviously different.  This logo is going to go on the pants we are wearing this year (I believe).  And it will be splashed all over this website too. WE NEED YOUR OPINION!  Which one do you like the best?  The "RED" Canada or the "PINK" Canada.  Have a look below and then under the pics you will see a VOTE box. Enter your vote there and the one with the most votes will be the design we run with!  She asked me to decide and I like them both too much....so I'm enlisting your help!

                      Team Betty Canada
                      A NATIONAL TEAM IN 2011!!

                      Picture
Welcome to the TEAM BETTY CANADA National Team Website.  This website is being made to chronicle our journey, to share our story and to inspire people all over the world.

We all met because of one musical group.  NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK.  In 2008 they made their triumphant return to the music world and set a fire that none of us ever believed would burn brightly beyond that year.

Make sure you check out "OUR Story" for how it all started, how we all met and how we became a NATIONAL Team this year.  Check out "Krista" to see our source of daily inspiration and strength.  Most of all we hope you have a great time wandering around this site.

Team ETOWN and Team TDOT have joined forces and if you are reading this from another city (Like Calgary or BC or Saskatchewan OR Anywhere in Canada), give us a dingle to see how you too can join our NATIONAL TEAM and make a HUGE Difference in many lives.

Keep posted to this website to see how our fundraising initiatives are going and keep in the loop with all the ongoing events we have planned over the next little while.

The goal is to keep this as updated as possible to give all of you, our fellow team mates, family, and friends an up close and personal look at what we are doing and how you can help!

Coincidence??? We like to THINK NOT!

                      Picture
CIBC has put up for voting this years possible TSHIRT Designs.  This is one of them.  We can't help but think that our presence in Edmonton with Team Betty / Betty's Etown Girls didn't get her name on this shirt.  Of all the "Teams" In Edmonton last year we placed 3rd or 4th I believe overall in raising the most money.

If you haven't been to the website to vote yet - make sure you do!

                      Our Inspiration......

                      Picture
Danny Wood is a member of the New Kids on the Block.  On September 20, 1999 his mother Betty Wood passed away from Breast Cancer.

In her memory Danny created the Betty Wood Cancer Foundation and has teamed up with the Susan G. Komen Society.

                       **Copied from rememberbetty.com**

Wood, a member of New Kids on the Block as well as an acclaimed solo artist, has also crafted an album entitled Strong: Remember Betty, with sales proceeds also going towards Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Additionally, you may be interested in the Remember Betty Facebook page, and the latest from Danny Wood can be found on Twitter (@dannywood).  “Our mission here at Remember Betty is to make sure the legacy of my mother, Betty Wood, lives on. Betty Wood was a wonderful mother and wife, and the warmest person and I feel that it’s important that her pain and struggle with Breast Cancer is remembered – and her life wasn’t in vain.

Breast cancer is a fight that, according to the American Cancer Society, women have a chance of one in eight of eight of getting. In 2009, there were 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer, and 40,170 deaths related to breast cancer in the US. It’s the 2nd most common cancer among women in the US, right behind skin cancer – and it’s the second leading cause of cancer death in women, right after lung cancer.

For those women who contract breast cancer, the chance of dying is about 1 in 35.

And that’s just part of the equation – people don’t discuss this much, but men can and do come down with this disease as well.  This fight is one that absolutely needs to be fought with utmost vigor – and we need to win it. My hope is that this website will help create awareness and end up motivating people to join in our fight against this dreadful and deadly disease.”

And, so we walk.  For Betty, for Krista, for our friends, mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends, children and the men in our lives.  We walk so that one day, a future without Breast Cancer may exist.
